Relocating to Palm Springs

Hi, I will be moving from Hawaii to Palm Springs beginning of November. What is a nice area to move to? Won't have a car right away. Looking for a 1 bdroom apt where i could walk to some of the bars and super markets. Some views of the desert or mountains would be nice too... Thanks for any info you would have to offer,Gerard
