How much cooler is it up on the tramway - And, how much time should we allot or hiking? We're trying to squeeze this in our trip on our last day, but time is an issue. So we're wondering if the tramway is supposed to be an all day adventure, or if 2 1/2 to 3 hours will be enough time.

Yes, plan on being cooler on top of the mountain - so bring warm clothes. Check with them beforehand and get a weather report. Today it's expected to be in the low 60s - but will drop into the low 40s tonight. My suggestion would be go late morning. There are a lot of hiking trails - so gauge your hike on how much time you have. There's usually not a wait to get onto the tram, so you need not worry about wasting time waiting in line.

I've been to the top of the Tram when it was 100 degrees in Palm Springs and was 55 degrees at the top of the tram. Several hours or all day, it depends on you and what you want to accomplish. You can easily get lost up there. It is a no mans land after several miles so bring a GPS and lots of water if you want to go for a long hike. Make sure you notify the Park Officials of your plans at the beginning of your trail.
