We offer traditional accounting services to our business clients, but our job doesn't stop there. We are committed to making accounting costs contribute to profitability. Desert Tax Accounting is owned by Michael Lehman, a tax accountant with over 25 years of full-time tax experience. Mike graduated from the University of Alaska with a degree in both business and accounting in 1976. He passed the Federal Enrollment Exam in 1977 and has been a practicing Enrolled Agent (see our "Credentials" page) ever since. Following college Mike worked several years for one of Alaska's older public accounting firms. It was during this time the Alaska Pipeline was under construction and his firm provided accounting services to many contractors involved in the project. Mike is experienced in most tax areas, but specializes in real estate taxation and the special issues of real estate professionals. This is an area of tax law which is often misunderstood because real estate professionals have some distinct advantages over other independent contractors. In 1981 Mike moved back to his native Seattle and went into private practice. He simultaneously served as the finance manager of a medium sized manufacturing company he and several partners owned. After several successful years, Mike sold both businesses and relocated full-time to Palm Springs. In addition to being an Enrolled Agent, Mike is accredited in both accounting and taxation. He is a member of the National Society of Accountants and became QuickBooks© certified in 2005.
