Palm Springs Modernism Week

Falling for Mod: Modernism Show & Sale is October 19th-21st!

Happy almost fall, y’all! Got a great event for your calendars: the fifth annual Palm Springs Modernism Show & Sale – Fall Edition, held during Modernism Week’s Fall Preview October 19-21, 2018, will showcase 40 premier national and international decorative and fine arts dealers. This popular event is held at the Palm Springs Convention Center, located at 277 North Avenida Caballeros in Palm Springs, CA, and is a more intimate version of the annual Palm Springs Modernism Show & Sale held in February.

A festive Opening Night Party and Early Buying Preview Reception benefiting Modernism Week will be held Friday evening, October 19 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and offers attendees a cocktail reception, live music and an exclusive sneak peek (and the chance to be the first to shop) at the Modernism Show & Sale before it opens to the general public. Tickets for the Friday night early buying preview reception are $60 in advance at modernismweek.com or $75 at the door (all tickets include return entry to the show all weekend).

Atomic Ranch magazine will return to the Show & Sale with a presentation on midcentury modern Renovation Challenges on Saturday, October 20 from 2 – 4 pm. Editor Sarah Jane Stone will interact with Palm Springs Contractor Steven Shields to tackle the difficult questions about when to preserve, restore or renovate.

Also on Saturday, the show will feature a book signing by author Doug Meyer from 1 to 3 p.m. Meyer’s new book, “HEROES: A Tribute,” pays homage to brilliant creative figures such as Robert Mapplethorpe, Keith Haring and Rudolph Nureyev, who were some of the first victims of AIDS and AIDS-related diseases. Printed in multiple papers with pops of neon color and painted edges echoing the artist’s work, HEROES is a gorgeous, hard-cover feast for the eyes and soul.

The Palm Springs Modernism Show & Sale – Fall Edition showcases important 20th and 21st century objects, furniture, art and design. It is produced by Dolphin Promotions, whose shows are among the leading venues for antiques and 20th century decorative and fine arts in North America.  Following the Opening Night Party and Early Buying Preview Reception, the show continues on Saturday and Sunday. Weekend show hours are Saturday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Tickets are $15, include return entry all weekend, and may be purchased at the door.

Making their first appearance at the Fall show this year are dealers ArtLink International (of Lake Worth, FL), Den (of Los Angeles, CA), McGeorge Art Prints (of Santa Clarita, CA), and New Order Modern (of Chicago, IL). Among returning dealers featured this fall are Artexture (of Los Angeles, CA), On Madison (of Pasadena, CA), Rick Petteford (of Sebastopol, CA), Silk Road Modern & Oriental Rugs (of Beverly Hills, CA), and Kenneth Stern (of Palm Springs, CA).

Show & Sale sponsors include Freightforwarding.com and media sponsors Atomic Ranch, California Home+Design, California Homes, Modern, Palm Springs Life, and Santa Fe Magazine.

“The Fall Edition is an important show for our dealers,” said Rosemary Krieger, President of Dolphin Promotions. “Our vendors look forward to participating in this show because of the high caliber of attendees. We are delighted to once again partner with Modernism Week during their Fall Preview for this important event.”

Hennessey + Ingalls, the largest art, architecture and design bookstore in the western United States, returns as the Show’s official bookseller. Founded in 1963 as an outlet for rare and out-of-print architecture books, the family-owned company’s in-depth selections of books in art and art history, all phases of architecture, photography, interior design, graphic design and landscaping has made it a valued member of the vibrant art, architecture and design communities in Southern California and beyond.

During Modernism Week last February, the Palm Springs Modernism Show & Sale set a new record for the number of attendees. More than 12,500 participants attended the popular sale at the Palm Springs Convention Center, up 25% from the previous year. This figure does not include the additional 1,400 guests who attended the show’s preview party on Friday, February 16, making this the most well-attended show at the Palm Springs location in the company’s history. Attendees were eager to view and purchase furniture, decorative and fine arts representing all design movements of the 20th century from more than 85 premier national and international dealers.
