Ongoing Palm Springs Follies - Let the Good Times Roll The Fabulous Palm Springs Follies is a three-hour, razzle-dazzle, song and dance vaudeville-style extravaganza showcasing the music and dance of the '30s, '40s and '50s with one amazing difference? each of the cast members is from 59 to 84 years "young!" The Follies has proven, beyond a doubt, Billie Burke's (a.k.a. Mrs. Florenz Ziegfeld and a star in her own right) famous quote, "Age doesn't matter unless you're a cheese." From 3/30 - 5/16: Mary Wilson - Making history as a founding member of The Supremes whose reputation as the world's most successful female singing trio led to her present solo fame. Mary Wilson is now celebrated as a unique recording artist, stage and film performer, popular lecturer, and best-selling author. This season she makes her first appearance at the Follies, performing such Motown classics as "Stop, In The Name of Love" and "You Can't Hurry Love." More... Thru 3/31/10 Art of Japan Heather James Art & Antiquities is pleased to present Art of Japan. Art of Japan brings together an outstanding selection of the finest Japanese antiquities from the Edo and Meiji Periods in Japanese history. Pieces of various mediums including embroidery, sculpture, paintings, screens, bronze, and furniture fill the gallery space. Highlights of the exhibition include a pair of wooden temple Nio figures, a large silk and gold thread embroidered eagle, and several ornate examples of porcelain and cloisonne´ vases and other decorative objects. During this time, Connor has sought out locales and traditions that convey the essence of time, faith, and place. Photography enables her to connect these concepts metaphorically to her subject matter. India, Indonesia, Turkey, Cambodia, Egypt, Tibet, Hawaii and the American Southwest are among the places she has photographed. Included in the exhibition are some of Connor's best-known images from the past three decades, along with more recent work that has had little public exposure. This year, the City of La Quinta will serve as a collection site for the Hidden Harvest program. All residents, country club communities, and businesses are encouraged to drop off their just-ripe citrus between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at the City's collection site, which is located at the La Quinta Library parking lot (78-275 Calle Tampico). Alley from the U.S. Geological Survey’s Office of Groundwater will lead a discussion, “Tracking Groundwater Reserves,” at 2 p.m., at Cal State San Bernardino’s Palm Desert Campus. Alley has been with the U.S. Geological Survey since 1976 and currently serves as chief of the Office of Groundwater, which provides technical support for groundwater studies throughout USGS and is responsible for the USGS Groundwater Resources, National Water Use and Yucca Mountain Programs. Vietnam Program & Flight Exhibition Palm Springs Air Museum is proud to present its annual Vietnam program at 1pm. Dr. Isaac Eliachar, surgeon and history buff, will give a general overview on how the Cold War led to U.S. involvement in Vietnam. Doctor Eliachar will then review major phases of the war and set the historical stage for the presenters: Navy Skyraider pilot Ron LaValle (3 tours in Vietnam), US Army & Air Force helicopter pilot Bill Courtney (also 3 tours) and EC-47 Air Force pilot Jim Thorp (1 tour in Vietnam). Sunday March 21 The 19th Annual Living Desert Gala The Living Desert, 47900 Portola Avenue, Palm Desert / The Living Desert will host its largest fundraising event, the 19th annual, A Wild Affair Gala tonight from 5-9pm. Wednesday April 14 The 6th Annual Taste of Palm Springs The 6th Annual Taste of Palm Springs, presented by KAHLúA – Explore your Curiosity – Enjoy Your Curious Life Responsibly, will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at the Palm Springs Convention Center. This year, the event will highlight many local restaurants and food resources, spotlight savory cuisines from a diverse group of casual and fine dining establishments, and feature live musical entertainment. Proceeds from the evening will once again benefit AIDS Assistance Program, one of the desert's most worthy, community-based, “grass-roots” non-profit organizations.
